Have you ever heard of SOHO HOUSE & CO ?
They state that they were “founded in London in 1995 as a private members’ club for people in the creative industries, Soho House & Co has since opened clubs across Europe and North America, as well as restaurants, cinemas, workspaces, spas and bedrooms.”
First off, how amazing is that? A special place carved out in the world that celebrates, appreciates and caters, in a physical sense, to creatives and best of all, it’s private, it’s not for everyone. When one does this correctly, it creates a sense of intimacy and value, providing members of the clubs with elegant experiences.
The Houses are designed with great care and finest attention to detail.
Q: If it’s private, how does one become a member?
A: You have to be invited. Members “propose new applicants to join the club and the Membership Committees meet quarterly and admit new members when space is available.” If you are able to join the club before 27 you are able to receive 50% off membership fees.
Q: Is my membership forever?
A: No. Memberships are reviewed on annual basis, allowing the committee to maintain the integrity of the space.
Q: How does one enter?
A: With their membership card, if a member were to lend the card to a non member who enters the space, the member becomes banned.
Q: What is the code of attire?
A: Do not be corporate. Again. Do not be corporate. Make sure you are not corporate and the people you entertain are not either.
Q: What other rules are there?
A: If an event is going on or is proposed. Do not speak of it to anyone other than those invited.
Q:Anything else I should be aware of?
A: Don’t invade other members privacy. Don’t disturb the other members.
Q: Wow. What else?
A: Don’t make calls unless you are in a designated area. One can text but calls are frowned upon.
Q: Can I record?
A: No. No recording while in the house. See above about respecting privacy and the sanctity of the space.
An intriguing concept.
We are certainly enamored.
