“Suzuki Roshi, I’ve been listening to your lectures for years,” a student said during the question and answer time following a lecture, “but I just don’t understand. Could you just please put it in a nutshell? Can you reduce Buddhism to one phrase?”
Everyone laughed. Suzuki laughed.
“Everything changes,” he said. Then he asked for another question.
The world is new every day, yet, it’s us who have to realize that a change has taken place.
We live in a rut because we believe we’re living the same day over and over again, stuck forever in the same routine.
Seeking external stimulation as opposed to internal liberation.
We make the same choice day after day to mentally stay in the same spot.
Free your mind.
